Over the past few years, social media has been an important tool used by businesses in engaging their brands (goods and services) with target audiences and potential customers.

With the advent of social media, marketing is evolving from the traditional way to a more vibrant digital market on which buyers and sellers from different geographical areas are brought together to form a virtual market.

Considering that there are now more than 3 billion users on social media, and these people are using social media to engage with brands, chances of business growth are reasonably high.

According to Sherpa Marketing statistics, more people follow brands on social media than follow celebrities with over 80 per cent of Instagram users following at least one business.

Now that half the world’s population is using social media, there is a natural place to reach new and highly targeted potential customers, and there is a need to understand that people approach social media to explore new brands and trends, not only to connect with brands they already know.

Social media also humanizes a brand by creating meaningful relationship moments between followers and people who make up a company or firm. Proper use of various social media platforms can also introduce followers to the already existing customers who are already benefiting from the product or service.

A UK study from Trinity Mirror Solutions found that more than half of adults do not trust a brand until they see “real-world proof” that the brand is keeping its promises, hence cultivating is an advantage which businesses enjoy from social media. 

Social medial do offer an opportunity to establish a brand as a thought leader regardless of the industry that your business is in; it gives a brand the power to influence decisions of its audience or customers.

Businesses can also make use of social media to stay top of mind of their client by keeping them entertained and informed with breaking news and trends and also relating the content to their brands, that way customers will make a stop on your platform each time they want to make a purchase.

For a 21st-century business to survive and grow, social media is now an essential tool which undoubtedly brings quick returns if it is effectively used.
