Proficiency in computers is an absolute requirement for success in today’s technology-aided society which is technologically deterministic.

However, due to financial limitations, many children and youths in Africa have no or limited access to computers or computer learning opportunities as the continent is lagging behind in terms of technological development and advancement.

As it stands, 50% of African countries include computer studies in their learning curriculum compare to 85% of countries globally, a clear sign that the African continent is technologically backward.

Most decent-paying jobs require proficiency in computers and basic office applications, some job applications are only accepted electronically and need that the applicant has an email address, this is a clear indication that technology is now the way to go.

To ensure positive economic growth and development that benefits all citizens, Africa must make significant strides in digital literacy so that it can achieve its sustainable development goals and create competitive markets in the global village.
